get out!

I went snowshoeing yesterday. It was the perfect day for it too. Not only was it an unofficial "team" exercise with my best work buddies, but it was warm enough to be comfortable yet cold enough for nice fluffy snow. We’re very fortunate to have some beautiful wilderness trails in our area.

Huffing and puffing our way up and down hills, we panted our agreement that we were having a great time. Being stuck inside the house/office all winter is boring and depressing and sucks, but if you can get out and enjoy everything the season has to offer, you’ll find that winter isn’t bad at all.

A lot of people say “I just don’t like the cold.” To those people I say, “Get over it!!"

As my husband is fond of saying, “There’s no such thing as too cold, just under dressed.” Once you get moving you’ll break a sweat no matter how cold it is. Grabbing some sunshine and fresh air is especially important at this time of year. It can really pull you out of your winter funk.

There are plenty of outdoor activities you can use to inject vitality into ho-hum winter days.

· Skating – inside or outside, it will get the heart pumping

· Downhill skiing – for daredevils

· Snowboarding – for ├╝ber daredevils

· My personal favourite is cross country skiing

· Snow shoeing is fun and sometimes very practical

· Take the kids tobogganing

· Nobody’s stopping you from going for a run or a walk!

· Shovelling snow – it may be a chore but it’s a fantastic workout

Winter is long. It can be a waiting game until summer or it can be a whole world of fun. The choice is really up to you. Personally, I choose fun.

  4. You totally rock!! I would love to snow shoe! If it does not stop raining here, I may get to do some rowing!! Geez I really hate the rain!!

Anyway it did not stop us last night. We went for a 3+ mile walk at 10pm. When we were finished it was after 11. I did not even realize it was that late. (I love vacations ~ totally don't pay attention to time!!!) I wondered why nobody was out.

Have a great day my friend and stay focused!

  6. Great post! I totally agree that it's never too cold as long as you're dressed for the weather. Cold runs are the best. :)

  7. Now I want to go ice skating!

I agree about the people whining about the cold. I hear it all day at work. I sit there thinking to myself .. "um, I am out there almost every day RUNNING in a skirt in the cold, not bundled in my house. Stop complaining!" Naturally I don't say it - but you know I'm thinking it!

    Have fun with your snowshoes!

  17. I like those snow shoes!! And I agree if you have a great jacket, it's not cold at all...in our area however it's very wet. I hate being wet and cold to the bones...You'd almost have to wear a snowsuit(it being waterproof) to stay WARM around here...since it rains probably 95% of the time!! :P But ya, if kept dry, Winter can be very warm...

  18. Have never tried snowshoeing. One day....

Have gone running a few times this winter, though! I kinda like it. I love skating, but haven't had the opportunity recently. Too much other stuff going on, I guess. :)
