diet renewal, DM and tasty tuesday regrets

For me, weight loss is more about diet than it is exercise. I worry that with my renewed commitment on the exercise front, I've been letting my diet slip a little. You see, there was a time that I was religiously tracking my calories with a 1500-1700 target in mind. Meals were planned every week. I rarely found myself standing in front of the fridge with a blank stare....hoping something delicious and healthy would magically appear!

This week I'm determined to get back on track with my diet. The meals are simple, easy and pre-planned. I'm focusing on 1500 calories per day with 3 meals (including breakfast) and 2 snacks. Oh, and no more eating after 7pm.

Unfortunately, this means I won't be creating any particularly inspired meals this week. My usual Tasty Tuesdays post is going to have to go on hold...at least for a week or two. Instead, I'll share some pics of the good (but boring) stuff I'm eating this week:

Is this what your meals look like when you're "on plan"?

Don't let this post fool you into thinking that the scales are going to tip away from exercise. I mean, I still have 25 miles to put it on foot as part of my OktoberFast challenge. ;)

As some of you know, I've been logging my mileage via updates on Daily Mile. If you are open to having one more website to login & track, I highly recommend it. It provides a great summary of your progress and a very supportive (experienced!!!) community of fellow athletes. If you're on DM, please add me as a friend.

Have a great week, all!

  1. I think you are right to focus on food intake, and not exercise. Exercise alone doesn't seem to do it! You're gonna make it Rae!

  2. Your meals actually look really good! My meals when I'm on a plan..I tend to eat the exact same thing for days. (I am an ungodly picky eater) which I'm trying to expand..I really am...I think I'll head over to the Daily Mile and check it out. :O)

  4. You're right - I've heard weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise. Great idea to pre-plan your meals. That's a guaranteed calorie saver.

  6. Rae I eat really boring food all the time. (Minus my lasagna, but that was for company!) usually I sit there and eat the same thing 4 or 5 days in a row. Chili especially. I love me some chili

  7. mmm food. Look like you are headed down the right track I struggled the last couple of days...I haven't been to the grocery store so we don't have the fresh foods which means I turn to boxed or processed foods. I don't know about you but when I exercise I crave and eat better food....when I have it stocked!

  8. Oooh, that looks delicious.

No eating after 7 P.M. - won't happen for me. Sad enough, but the BF hardly ever comes home before 7 P.M., and we're trying to have our 2 meals per day together. Therefore it's dinner and news at 8 P.M. most of the time. *sigh*

And you remind me, I should try to add more exercise to my schedule again...

  9. I find the harder I am exercising the harder it is for me to keep in my calorie range. When I am really working on keeping the food in target my exercise slips. I wish I could get them both going at the same time!

  11. My meals don't look that good. I have been meaning to do a better job. Need more veggies. I would like to get some fun plates and bowls and make the dining experience more fun! Need to work on that!

  12. I love Daily Mile! Except for this week where I am being a slacker, it helps keep me motivated to get out and do something!

Seeing these pictures really tells me I need to step it up in the food category. Tonight's cake was maybe NOT the best choice. Hmm.

  15. Hey, Rae! Thanks for stopping by my post. Always love your comments.

Yeah. The eating thing. Can't seem to get away form that. :) Funny how that works, huh? Chuckle.

I am always so impressed with your running! I just can't do it. Well, actually, my knees can't. sigh. But I can track!

Me and the bodybugg are hot now!
